About the Kalmensons The core of Team Kalmenson lies in the husband-wife partnership of Harvey and Cathy Kalmenson each with their own roster of credits. Harvey is one of the most highly respected and sought after voice casting directors in the world today. He also produces and is a production consultant on many of his assignments. The Entertainment Industry door opened on Harvey’s path to directing by David L. Wolper. It was followed by a variety of jobs including an internship with Alfred Hitchcock on his Anthology series and later working under John Houseman. He later became the head of the voice over department with Abrams-Rubaloff & Associates, one of the leading commercial talent agencies in Los Angeles. He has worked with virtually every major voice over artist and has developed and enhanced the careers of many unknowns. Now, he is Co-Founder and Director of Auditions (celebrities, scale, children, foreign language, large groups, animation, improv, etc.) at the Kalmenson compound and hosts his own blog featuring jewels of voice over wisdom. Cathy began her career in Chicago working for Leo Burnett Advertising. Then at Abrams-Rubaloff &Associates she became a voice over agent and learned the ropes of nurturing careers and selling voices for a living. Cathy continued as a voice over agent at the Tisherman Agency and later Special Artists before her shift into casting at the Voicecaster. Now, as Co-Founder, President, and Director of Casting, Cathy has helped create and define the voices of thousands of brand name products and characters that have shaped the world we live in and currently teaches the highest level of voice over class taught in Los Angeles at the Kalmenson Studios.

This week’s Guest Director: Talent Agent, Nicole Younce & VO Consultant, Adrienne McWhorter

In 2012, Michelle Mokalla acquired the Marla Dell Talent Agency now known as MDT Agency, Inc. and has been executing her vision to expand and modernize the agency. Since then, business has exponentially grown, making MDT Agency a player in not just the San Francisco market, but the larger markets as well. As President, Mokalla officially launched the Voice Over Department in March 2013, and assembled a new team to run and grow the VO business which includes Talent Agent, Nicole Younce, who has been in the entertainment industry for the past two decades, and VO Consultant, Adrienne McWhorter, who started in the VO industry as a Talent Agent at Abrams Artists Agency LA. Michelle Mokalla and the rest of the team at MDT Agency look forward to working with the voice over community, and expanding opportunities to talent based in and outside of the Bay Area.

How it works:

Monday by 12:00pm, copy will be posted for the weekly workout along with specific direction for your recording.

Record an mp3 of the copy with a slate of your name in front of the audition e.g., “This is Joe Smith”. ONE Take only.

All Mp3 auditions must be emailed to weekendworkout@voicebank.net by Thursday 12 Noon PST, to be heard. After this cut off, auditions will not be submitted under any circumstances.

On Monday of the following week, check back on this page for a link to all the practice auditions with the comments and ratings that were provided. This way, you not only learn from your read but others as well.

****This is not an actual audition. This is an opportunity to have your practice audition listened to by an industry professional. The comments provided by the Guest Director are not necessarily the opinions of voicebank.net or its staff. This service is available for Platinum members only and you are only allowed one take and one mp3 per week. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

Weekend Workout Opportunity

Voiceregistry’s Weekend Workout Opportunity Provides You With:

- Practice

- Constructive Critiques of your practice audition

- Ability to learn from others by listening to their takes and any suggestions given by the Guest Director

- Exposure to Talent Agents and Casting Directors

In order to participate, you must be a Platinum member of the voiceregistry Once logged in you will see a weekend workout link in the toolbar. Every Friday by 6:00pm, we will post the copy for the weekend workout along with specific direction for your recording. Practice the script over the weekend and record 1 mp3 of the copy with a slate of your name in front of the audition.

There are instructions online of how to return the audition to voiceregistry and your practice audition will be included in our grouping to be heard by the GUEST DIRECTOR. The GUEST DIRECTOR will listen through the spots and make comments where appropriate. On Tuesday of the next week, you can check back on the weekend workout page for a link to all the practice auditions with the comments that were provided. This way, you not only learn from your own read but you can hear others as well.
